The Italian agri-food sector accounts for 15% of national GDP, with a total turnover value of 250 billion euros.

Our production model is a champion in value-added production per hectare: more than double the EU-27 average, three times that of the United Kingdom, double that of Spain and Germany, and 70% more than France.

Italy is the strongest country in the world for “distinctive” products, with 272 PDO and PGI products and 4,886 traditional regional specialities that safeguard biodiversity and defend tradition and employment.

Italy is at the top of world food safety.

Italian agriculture is among the most sustainable: it emits 35% less greenhouse gas than the EU average.

Italy has the largest network of farms and farmers’ markets selling directly at zero food miles, cutting the pollution caused by transport.

These records make us proud and encourage us to keep doing better, more and more, joining forces and making our voice heard loud and clear – the voice of the producers – because we know that the biggest battles, those against the market, against speculation and against the never-sufficient attention from institutions, are not won alone, but always and only by working together.
Lazio is a strategic region for Italian agri-food, and the regional olive-growing sector, largely represented by our PO in terms of number of members and hectares of olive groves, is a fundamental pillar of our economy and an irreplaceable safeguard for our territory.
There are many battles that, in our region, we fight alongside Coldiretti; among them it is worth mentioning the reform of the school canteen tender model, so that it rewards not the lowest bid but the qualitatively better offer and local origin, or the Roma PGI project, a unique opportunity for Lazio and, at the same time, a powerful driving force for the whole world of Italian oil.
For these reasons OP LATIUM invites all its members, #OlivicoltoriDelLazio, to take a leading role on Saturday 11 June 2016 at 9:00 AM in Rome at Pala Tiziano (Piazza Apollodoro, 10) for the Lazio leg of the tour organised across Italy by Coldiretti to give visibility to the farming sector: this is a hugely important occasion to highlight Lazio’s olive-growing sector and its central role, not only in production but also environmentally, socially and culturally.
