On Saturday 19 March 2022, the 13th edition of the Lazio Regional Championship of polyconic vase olive pruning, organised by OP LATIUM with the contribution of ARSIAL – Regional Agency for the Development and Innovation of Agriculture in Lazio, took place in Palombara Sabina at the OP LATIUM facility and the Azienda Agricola Domenici Rosanna.
As many as 39 pruners from across the region competed, pruning three trees each within a total of 30 minutes; the work was carried out, as per the rules, strictly from the ground and using only hand tools.
At the end of the competition, a qualified panel of experts assessed the competitors’ work, awarding each pruned tree a maximum score of 20 points based on five parameters: shape of the top, balance between the primary branches, shape of the secondary branches, vegetative-productive balance, and conformity to the ideal shape.
The scores awarded were then processed to draw up a final ranking and proclaim the competition winners.
The top 5 will represent Lazio at the upcoming National Championship of polyconic vase olive pruning.
